Good information, thank you. A burning smell can also originate from a burned capacitor. I had a similar issue with my Whirlpool washer, where the capacitor burned out slowly until I eventually saw smoke coming from it. Fortunately, it was an easy fix; a $21.00 part from the Amazonions instead of a $600 new washer.

There’s a much easier way to do this without removing the motor housing. Use a flathead screwdriver to pop out the switch with the wires attached. Transfer the wires to the new switch and pop it into place. 30 seconds vs. 30 minutes.

Replacing a crappy part with another crappy part. Hardly used my Q1200 and the regulator failed within a few months while camping, good thing camp has a grill over the firepit. Had to go back and forth with Weber support until they shipped me a replacement. Used that for a few months and that one failed too. It seems that there are a lot of folks have issues with this regulator, so I did some research and there are a few videos to replace it with an aftermarket regulator. Replaced mine and it's better than new. More heat and has been flawless so far. Weber needs to redesign this particular regulator.

I installed the arm that rests over the spring upside down, and could not get the assembly to line up correctly. The convex side fits into the spring; the spring does not fit into the concave part of the arm. Also, I had difficulty getting the spring to line up and press the arm with the needle all at once, keeping the arm over the spring so that the whole assembly was in the proper position after pushing down. Maybe it's because I'm 76 and never worked on a small carburetor!
